Jessie J: Who You Are Album Review

Posted by Girl Talk at 11:08 AM
OMG! What is it with this year??? Everyone's albums are just pure gold! Jessie J's album just came out yesterday in the UK, and I was fortunate enough to be given a copy (partly because I have good connects in London, but also because I am a slightly crazed fan) and let me tell you, all the work gone into getting the album was not in vain, because I love the album. Seriously, I have been listening to it nonstop, and as usual, it speaks to most of my everyday problems.

Who You Are has to be my favorite of the whole album. She talks about staying true to who you are because if you keep trying to be who everyone else wants you to be, you won't remember who you are anymore. So, just be true to who you are. She also says its okay to be vulnerable because "tears don't mean you're losing/everybody's bruising." "Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing...It's okay not to be okay..."

Big White Room. Now, this song is super close to my heart. Haven't you ever had a moment when everything seems to go wrong, whether you're going through a break up, or a fight with a friend or family member, or it just seems like nothing is going your way? And you spend hours upon hours in your room, and you stare at the walls and your emotions hit you full force and you're forced to deal with yourself? Well, this song definitely addresses that. I had one of those moments not to long ago, if you couldn't tell. :) "Sitting in a big white room alone/Tilt my head back, feel the tears fall down/Close my eyes to see in the dark/I feel young, broken, so so scared."

Next is a personal favorite: Abracadabra. It talks about how she wants to take the backseat in this new relationship because being in the lead never worked for her before. So, she's trying something new in something new and she's got the butterflies and gigglies of a girl in infatuated like. It's a cute song. "Cuz you got my heart on lock/It's so unreal, you know/Don't want this to stop/You're so damn capable/Feel your magic touch/It's unbelievable/I gotta have ya/Like abracadabra."

Casualty of Love is a cute song about being there for the one you love, no matter what happens. It's smooth, serene and full of love. "The battle of us will be simple/Escape without being hurt/'Cause love is shield, it keeps us concealed/From what could get even worse/So baby let me be your soldier/Don't be overtaken by pride/Just close your eyes, take my hand/I promise to keep us alive." L.O.V.E. is also about love. Duh, LOL. It's cute because she said she'd never write about love, and is just so in love that she has to. "Your my key/You unlock me/Keep me close, keep me safe, keep me happy/So sweet, ooooooh looooove."

Who's Laughing Now, is another favorite of mine. It's basically a "suck it" to all of the people who ever made fun of her. She's basically saying you didn't like me, but now millions of people like me and PAY to see me...Who's laughing now? Huh? "Oh, so you think you know me now/Have you forgotten how/You would make me feel/When you drag my spirit down/But thank you for the pain/It made me raise my game/And I'm still rising, I'm still rising."

I Need This is a remake of Chris Brown's Graffiti album song, and since Jessie J originally wrote it, she wanted to do her own personal version. And she nailed it. I loved the song when Chris sang it, but now, I love hers just as well. Hats off. "I need this space/Just like you need air/I need this time/Time to clear out my mind."

Rainbow is a song talking about how everyone, no matter the color, or social class, is the same. We're all human, so it shouldn't matter. And we should unite. Very tree hugger, this song is. "We're the colours of the rainbow (yeah, yeah)/Lets share our pot of gold." Stand Up is also another cause song. She talks about seizing the day and to live life like its you're last."'Cause you're as old as you feel you are/And if you don't reach for the moon you can't fall on the stars/So I live my life like every day is the last, last, last."

Price Tag, a single with B.o.B., Nobody's Perfect, and Do It Like A Dude, the songs that made me love this woman's music. They have been doing exceptionally well, so I really don't need to talk about it.
